It is difficult to believe that it is the only film that has been adapted from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child novel considering the relic was a the best genre films of 1997. Upon his release he was fresh, inventive and funny where it should be while still managing to be surprising and frightening.
Character actor Tom Sizemore (in rare form as the lead) is Lt. Vincent D'Agosta who is brought in to investigate several murders in the local museum in which Dr. Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller) is a witness. It also does not help that these new murders are similar to those of another if it works on suggesting a serial killer is in their mist. Margo leads a different lead in the mystery come to the conclusion that the murdered man no human being as a genetic defect led to believe that the murderer is actually a kind of chimera, a creature which is a mixture of several animals and insects and possibly humans. When Margo D'Agosta and try to close the museum in order to make a thorough search for the murderer They are trapped inside the museum with a hundred guests on the evening of the inauguration of a major exhibition. Soon D'Agosta, Margo, and all guests are experiencing an unstoppable monster that will leave the museum in the blood.
Director Peter Hyams did an exceptional job of translating the screenplay by Amy Holden Jones, John Raffo, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver as the film explores faith in the idea of "luck" thanks to D'Agosta to that of "feasibility" by Margo. Neither view is considered better than the film tries theme to link the two as if both are needed simultaneously. Hyams is also the cinematographer on the film (as it is on most of his films) and it is just home the horror that such action which he is best known.
The Relic may seem like a film that has come and gone, but it should never be forgotten.
