What are your favorite quotes from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens?
I had to do a project for school on this book finding quotes and summaries and then writing a reaction to each quote. I finished the project but I was wondering what everyone else thought. So what is your favorite part of the book or favorite quote. Or do you hate the book because honestly, I didn't like it very much haha.
I have not read "A Christmas Carol," by Charles Dickens in more than 50 years 
. I know that I am weary of the story having been subjected to it scores of times on film or on the stage. Hate it? No. Yet from the time of my childhood, I have been neither spellbound by the story nor instructed by the moral lessons it contains. Of course, we remember "'Bah!' said Scrooge. 'Humbug!'" and "'God bless us every one!' said Tiny Tim, the last of all." I was not moved as a child and I am not moved today.
Favorite quotes? None. Yet as long as it has been since I have read it, I do still remember two quotes as if I had just read the story:
1. From Stave 1, "Marley's Ghost," when Scrooge is approaching his residence in the dark and the fog, the narrator says about Scrooge, "Darkness is cheap, and Scrooge liked it."
I recall the feeling of loneliness when I imagined the old, dark place where Scrooge lived, and Scrooge's grim fondness for the darkness.
For your question, I returned to an old edition (1909) in my library to look for the words. I found them:
"Up Scrooge went, not caring a button for that. Darkness is cheap, and Scrooge liked it. But before he shut his heavy door, he walked through his rooms to see that all was right. He had just enough recollection of the face [Marley's] to desire to do that."
2. From Stave 2, "The First of the Three Spirits," when the Ghost of Christmas Past "walks" with Scrooge as they travel through Scrooge's past and the Ghost says, " 'The school is not quite deserted,' said the Ghost. 'A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.'
Scrooge said he knew it. And he sobbed."
Once again, I recall the feeling of loneliness and the image of the neglected boy.
Again, for your question, I returned to the book and found the words:
"The jocund travellers came on; and as they came, Scrooge knew and named them every one. Why was he rejoiced beyond all bounds to see them! Why did his cold eye glisten, and his heart leap up as they went past! Why was he filled with gladness when he heard them give each other Merry Christmas, as they parted at cross-roads and bye-ways, for their several homes! What was merry Christmas to Scrooge? Out upon merry Christmas! What good had it ever done to him?
'The school is not quite deserted,' said the Ghost. 'A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.' Scrooge said he knew it. And he sobbed."
3. Perhaps the one thing that I recall with pleasure is the artistry of the illustrations by John Leech.
