Colchester has a proud history and is considered the oldest recorded town in Britain as it was mentioned by Pliny the Elder to AD77 during Roman times. Between the 1500s and 1600s a large number of weavers and clothiers has emigrated from Flanders in northern France in Colchester and the surrounding Essex. They were famous throughout Europe for the manufacture of Many types of tissue specific bays and says. There was also a siege of Colchester during the Civil War of 1648. The parliamentary army besieged the city for eleven and a half weeks before the royalist army surrendered in late summer. After the assignment both Lucas and Lisle had been executed in the lands surrounding Colchester Castle.
The most notable Victorian Colchester was the great earthquake Land of 1884, which measured 4.7 on the Richter scale. It lasted about 20 seconds and about 1,200 buildings were damaged or destroyed. We said that 3 to 5 people died in the earthquake and it was about £ 10,000 worth of damage.
