Is Stuart, FL a cool place to live?

my boyfriend and i are planning to relocate to Florida, probably Stuart or somewhere in Martin County. my boyfriend has been to this area a few times over the last several years and likes it but i've never been. i am 39 and he is 40. is this a cool place for a couple our age to live? we are laid back, have dogs (no kids yet), we're from Santa Cruz, CA. what is this part of Florida like? is it interesting? lots of things to do? crowded, friendly, etc?

Kobe, not too big and not too small, Stuart is very nice and should fit your lifestyle well.
It's not too touristy, most of the tourism caters to boat people!

Most cities in Florida are pretty laid back - it's the climate that does it.
