End Ken Follett
The South African Academy Award Selection Committee and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) last month (September 2009) announced the selection of marriage White, for consideration as the entry of South Africa for the 82nd Academy Awards.
If approved by the Oscar Award Selection Committee Academy, White Wedding will then represent South Africa as a nominee in the foreign language category at the Oscars in 2010.
Made possible by Ken Follett, internationally renowned best selling novelist and executive producer, directed by Jann Turner, produced by Rapulana Seiphemo and Kenneth Nkosi, White Wedding is an appealing, feel-good movie about love, commitment, intimacy and friendship and a host of obstacles who can get mad like a happy ending. This is a film that says the dream that the novel can overcome all obstacles.
The three producers have received the news with enthusiasm at the announcement official in the office NFVF. "We are thrilled! Overwhelmed! Truly an honor to represent our country, "said Kenneth Nkosi." Wow, "exclaims Seiphemo. A long series of unprintable exclamations and sounds ecstatic is given by Turner.
To make the presentation on behalf of the film industry of South African NFVF is officially recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as the body to represent South Africa. "We are delighted that a film great merit was chosen to represent South Africa. Eddie Mbalo, NFVF CEO and president of the SA Academy Awards Selection Committee said: "This film will resonate with audiences around the world and it is clear from the performance of the film at the box office.
White Wedding was submitted to the Selection Committee South African Academy for consideration. It is a romantic comedy with a story, unique in South Africa said. National release in April 2009, the feature film a proudly South African production and execution team, the soundtrack is predominantly in languages other than English, and key cast members with the exception of Jodie Whittaker who plays an English character, is South African. The story is told in Afrikaans English, Zulu and Xhosa. The cinematographer, editor, costume designer, music composer and sound mixer are all South African nationals.
During its first week out on the track of the film has grossed over R1.1 million at the Box Office. The national success of White Wedding attest the fact that South Africa to produce high quality movies that can compete internationally and respond to global standards. The film joins the list of South African films that have been previously selected, the price of Oscar-winning Tsotsi (2006), nominated for an Oscar last year and Jerusalema last.
