Victorian era was the time of new inventions and innovations, there was a time of scientific ideas and developments, this is when the People lived in houses elegant and dressed elegantly. Victorian era was also the period during which Britain has become a the most powerful, modern and richest country in the world.
Victorian Literature
Novels
During the reign of Queen Victoria many writers newcomer to the scene. One of the most famous among the lot and that the whole world still remembers was William Shakespeare. His plays and poems are still read by people around the world. Some other great writers of this period include Sir Walter Scott, Emily, Anne and Charlotte Bronte, Anthony Trollope, George Eliot, Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens.
The works of these authors describe social conditions and satire prevailing in society. Victorian writers created such excellent work that even grown popular in the United States, France and Russia. Their work was quite unique and has created interest in the heart of readers immediately.
The authors have attempted to lift the experiments or characters from their own life or the conditions prevailing in society. Charles Dickens and William Thackeray, the two writers were very popular in this age, both tried to represent the situations of the middle class in their novels. The novels also address the situation of poor and oppressed.
The novels and poetry written at that time represented a large number of different emotions such as fighting, love, patience, romance, jealousy, intrigue, hard work, perseverance and luck. In the age endings were very pleased Dickens popular but after his death, they have become less common. Writers now really trying to show reality through their characters and plots.
The style of writing novels all the writers of this period was more or less similar. The books have grown more realistic and often darker.
Poetry and drama
Some of the major poets of this period were Alfred Lord Tennyson, James Plank, and Thomas William Robertson George Bernard Shaw, Matthew Arnold, Gerard Manley Hopkins and several others. The poems are far less romantic and more passion and tenderness. Some poets are also engaged writing comic poems.
The play area also gained much popularity during this era. Many representations have been data and plays have been performed for a wide variety of audiences.
So, in reality Victorian era was really a great time during which poets and novelists achieved and gained new heights and experiences.
