Just After Sunset
Cirrocumulus clouds are in the world at high altitudes, typically above 16,500 feet. Just as cirrostratus, cirrocumulus occurs when a large in moist air at these high altitudes reached saturation and freezes. Because of this cirrocumulus clouds consist entirely of ice crystals.
It is rare cirrocumulus dominate the sky, but when it can produce spectacular sunsets as the sunlight reflects off the clouds low on horizon. For this reason cirrocumulus is often considered the most attractive type of clouds, often forming spectacular patterns that stretches for hundreds miles across the sky.
A particularly dramatic form is cirrocumulus waves, appearing as fine wrinkles across the sky. These undulations are generated by high waves in the atmosphere caused by pure wind.
Cirrocumulus clouds appear as white patches or spherical masses, known as elements. These elements can occur in undulating lines and patterns, like ripples of small, resembling small wrinkles often found on a sandy beach.
The main difference between cirrocumulus and altocumulus is the small size of the cloud individual, and the height at which they are formed.
In the clouds cirrocumulus isolation are meaningless weather large, although a steady increase in these clouds may indicate an approaching frontal system. But this is only a loose connection and terms of predicting clouds cirrocumulus are not really a reliable indicator. They can sometimes appear when a high pressure system begins to weaken, but does not say much beyond.
The atmospheric temperature is about - 40 ° C (which is also -40 ° F) level cirrus and this explains why the clouds cirrocumulus made entirely of ice crystals.
