A career as a truck driver is a nomad. A truck driver going to bed tonight, several hundred miles from where it started this morning. Tomorrow he will deliver and look for another load headed for another unknown destination. If you're a control freak, you'll go crazy trying to be a driver truck. Concentrate on driving miles quality instead of quantity miles. Set your goals a little lower to accommodate more time at home if you have a family. You can always do more than if you were working locally you may well have expected, but you will also able to schedule time to go home.
If you are a picky eater, you may be in difficulty. Truckers have a large variety places where they can choose to eat when dining out, but they are generally the same places throughout the country. Most places specializing in fast food, fried foods and high carbohydrate selections, or if you're lucky a buffet.
You have the possibility of best selection for places offering all-you-can-eat buffet. Just do not overdo it or you want to take a nap instead of driving. You can also cook your own meals if you can pick and choose what you eat. This will also allow you to eat a little healthier too. You can have a healthy Life on the road since you control the choices you make. Many drivers have a microwave or other cooking such as butane or propane stoves, stove electric and some carry a small grill for cooking outdoors when weather permits.
Having a grill also allows the opportunity to make truckers together for a little socialization. Each driver in Chipping something for the combined meal and sharing stories while cooking. There are several methods to allow the driver to cook and ways a driver can have a healthy diet, even if he was away most of the day. Become a trucker is not as glamorous as television gives the impression of being. This is a 24 / 7 with great responsibility. As commercial truck driver with a CDL you become a commercial pilot in charge of thousands, sometimes millions of dollars of goods, equipment operation and safety of those around you. It is quite an adventure and a challenge if you are accepted, but do not do lightly.
For those in the middle of the truck, take your informed decision about what you will be required to do with the attitude that you will be 100%. Your life and those around you have on him. However, if you decide to become a truck driver, join the trucking industry, I hope you enjoy your new lifestyle and your new career as a truck driver.
