Let the philosophers of the substance that underlies all creation. Let the mathematicians and physicists construct axioms and construct a cosmos and thus interpret reality. Let linguistic research of the Adamic language, but let writers master to be free.

The novelist must be free to explore the depths of humanity. DH Lawrence said: "Being a novelist, I consider myself superior to the saint, the scientist, philosopher and poet. The novel is the only book of luminous life. "

Yet, as disparate as the writers and chaotic might seem fine, we can see that is a method to their madness. Great writers tell the reader what their story is about from the beginning, they may not say so openly, but the index is there for the reader to catch.

Tongue in Cheek

Whether we like it or not, sometimes we just continue to read and tell us: "We'll see how it goes ..." If Jane Austen in her opening Pride and Prejudice uses the language of axioms and mathematics - "a truth universally acknowledged - we have no choice but to assume it is not only lightweight but also fun.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in need of a woman. "

Within seconds, we believe that the novel will be funny, light, and that the focus will be on wealth and marriage.

A Sunday sermon

A nameless narrator dreams

By paying attention to the openings above, storytellers can learn the art of revealing the thrust of the story right in the opening. This detail shows that the author is sincere, honest, and there will be no sleight of hand, deus ex machina, red herrings, withholding information, or other technical tricks.
