River Leif Enger
River Leif Enger
How do the books Peace like a River(Leif Enger), and A tree grows in brooklyn(Betty Smith)relate to tolerance?
I've searched the web, and I can't even come up with a summary for "Peace like a River," only a few sentences worth. I have almost given up on it. As for "A tree grows in brooklyn," I have a better idea. PLEASE HELP WITH "PEACE LIKE A RIVER." I don't really need to know summaries and things like that, because I read the books, I just don't see the tolerance in them.
Thanks to everybody, seriously.

I haven't read the books, but I quickly 'googled' them. The Tree in Brooklyn one is written I believe in a metaphoric sense. Brooklyn was a city that had been around for quite some time in the era that the book was set in. The place was substantially over-crowded with poor migrants, of different beliefs and varying degrees of piety. Front front to back she reminded the readers that it really was not a nice place at that time, with not a lot of parkland or greenery. The main female character comes in at a very young age. Instead of succumbing to the easy option of living a life lacking morals and culture (which the majority of people did), she developed into a very strong woman. Her other predominant trait was her compassion and good soul. I personally think the tree is there as a metaphor of something beautiful, surviving in a place, when other trees, etc. would wither and probably die. Instead of becoming a working girl in a brothel, or a victim (wife) to an abusive husband, she was like the tree and lived steadfast.
