If you suffer from tinnitus (ringing ears) as I do, my experience tells me that you probably have great difficulty with relationships. Why? Because not only drive you crazy tinnitus, it can also feel very alone. You feel isolated, because it often feels like nobody can understand your suffering.

Doctors do not really seem to understand. Your friends and colleagues do not understand. And, more importantly, it seems that your family does understand. You feel like nobody can understand, and therefore you tend to blame the people closest to you.

You must be aware that your loved ones also suffer right along beside you. You know they feel just as powerless as you are because they know that there is nothing they can do. They want you to save your private torture chamber, but they can not. All they can really do is hold the space while you try to determine your next course of action.

And yes, you're facing a choice. You can continue your present course and hope for a different result. This is what many people. Doing the same things day after day and still get the same result. Or, you can actually begin to learn what works in reducing the volume of your tinnitus. In order for me to share what I learned after 7 years with tinnitus, I need to tell you a bit of my story.

I had been happily married for 8 years before my tinnitus. When I have tinnitus it almost made my wife and I divorced. My marriage was simply not strong enough to withstand such pressure. The reason is that our marriage at that time, was mainly based around romantic love. This kind of love can not withstand serious challenges because romantic love is as a drug. Your body produces chemicals that make you feel euphoric, energetic and great. That's like living a rich natural heritage. But when the drug wears off, all the pain you felt that you took before the return of drugs.

So with my tinnitus appeared a new opportunity to learn what true love. And, as I gained more knowledge, our love has grown into something much deeper as romantic love. It developed into a spiritual partnership. Gary Zukav (author of the seat of the soul) defines Spiritual Partnership as "a partnership between equals for spiritual growth."

Unfortunately many people are addicted to romantic love. They continue the search without understanding that they are addicted to an illusion. When you fall on romantic love, you feel the love is gone, but really think that the illusion is gone. For any relationship to move beyond romantic love, both partners must evolve as beings humans.

To my wife Nancy and I tinnitus has been a beacon in our life experience to help us work towards this development. As we have evolved as beings humans, we evolved in our partnership. And, as I learned more about spiritual partnerships, the more I was able to heal, emotional parts spiritual mental myself. Then my physical world, including the world of tinnitus began to change. This was a revival of the sort. You can learn to do so by understanding your thought processes, your internal dialogue, your physical habits and your emotions. Awareness is the key.

As our marriage has grown stronger, my tinnitus decreased. We have discovered a deeper sense of identity, a greater sense of spiritual connectedness and purpose and a renewed commitment to both our personal growth and service. However, for your relationship to evolve, both Partners must be willing to commit their partners and personal development for the partnership to grow. Remember, there must be equal partners.

You can actually choose to enable tinnitus to remind you that you need to go beyond where you are now and Align yourself with a higher purpose. You are now compelled by force to find your higher self and heal you. And once you do, you will notice a better quality of life all around you. Your relationship will change, your marriage will be stronger, your children will be drawn near you, and everything and everyone around you will change for the better. It starts with the realization that the tinnitus is here as a beacon in your life for you to learn to be a happier person, a spouse better quality and a true friend to everyone you meet.
