A life of great success can be regarded as a series of failures punctuated by moments - successes for what many fail to realize is that the higher the level of success you achieve in your life then the more failures you will experience. And we need both - the failures and the success - how else would we be able to enjoy our success once it finally reaches.
Jack Canfield said in an interview that "Chicken Soup for the Soul" (co-authored by Mark Victor Hansen) was rejected by 144 publishers,
"Nobody he wanted to do. They all said it was a stupid title, that nobody bought collections of short stories, there was no edge - no sex, no violence. Why would anyone want to read?
Their agent gave up after the first 33 new publishers discharges York.
"Sorry boys, I can not sell."
Frankly, can you blame him? After all he did not have the same personal investment in this product as did Jack Canfield and his co-author Mark Victor Hansen.
But the "experts" were wrong.
"Chicken Soup for the Soul" became an international bestseller and inspired a series of more than 100 pounds of chicken soup with obscure titles as Chicken Soup for the Scrapbooker's Soul "and" Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Dog Food. "Really!
In the long term, the absence of the agent endurance proved to be an advantage for Canfield and Hansen as they arrived to keep 15% commission to the agent.
It is a state of mind peculiar to persevere seemingly against all odds - the mentality of a Goal achiever, the mindset of a winner!
Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen are not the only authors to have suffered repeated refusals their literary efforts.
Other famous examples of authors who experienced multiple discharges
1. John Grisham, "A Time to Kill" has been repeatedly rejected. "A Time to Kill" has been transformed into a great film with excellent distribution including Samuel L Jackson, Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey.
2. Alex Haley's "Roots" was released about 200 times! Yet, serialization television Roots has taken the world by storm.
3. James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy "was first self-published. It was his underground hit which made publishers sit and take notes. "The Celestine Prophecy" is a testament to the power of viral marketing. It sold over one hundred thousand copies within months of its first printing mainly by word of mouth.
So you see, if you really believe in something, within reason of course, then follow through. Keep trying different combinations and approaches and until you find a way to make your idea, your dream fruit.
I read recently on Corey Rudyl, Internet Marketing guru who turned an investment of $ 25 plus $ 40,000,000 in online sales and in the process helped thousands to start their own Internet business. Corey died suddenly and tragically in a car accident last year.
Corey loved racing and he also loved the Internet Business. He was just 34 when he died and it is a testament to his tenacity, perseverance and vision that the company he founded, the Internet Marketing Center, continues to grow more profitable under the leadership of his protégé, Derek Gehl.
Did Corey Rudyl make mistakes? Well sure he did, but he does not see them as such. He had the foresight to recognize that each "failure" can be transformed into a huge success if it merely applied the lessons he has learned from its mistakes.
However, perhaps one of the most famous who would not give up faced with repeated failures was Thomas Edison. When Napoleon Hill interviewed Edison he joked that he had not found the secret of the lamp filament at this very moment, it would be in the lab working on this instead of wasting time talking to him! Edison also says:
"I was successful because I finally ran out of things that do not work."
We now all the advantages of the invention of Thomas Edison in order to Edison himself may have been too numerous to contemplate. Or maybe I am have been presumptuous.
Walt Disney was another great visionary who never gave up. When it was discovered he was buying thousands of acres of wetlands in the Florida folk thought he was crazy, but they did not have vision. Walt Disney died before actually his dream could be fully realized.
Someone later remarked to an associate of Walt Disney that it was a shame he did not see his theme park in all its splendor. The associate smiled and replied:
"Oh, he lives."
Perhaps the vision of Thomas Edison how the incandescent light bulb would illuminate our lives was much more detailed and wider than what I give him credit for. Who am I to talk? While I was working on eliminating my limiting beliefs, I do not know that I had the staying power to do 10,000 experiments.
I think my problem is that if you learn from your failures and strive tirelessly towards your goals or dreams you get for what you seek is also seeking you. Let me leave you with this quote from Thoreau
"If a person advance confidently in the direction of their dreams, and endeavors to live the life they have imagined they will meet with a success unexpected regular hours. "
