Would you help me with advice on my career/school situation?
I am a 27 year old male. I have been working full time for a nonprofit making $30k a year for the last year(bvefore that I worked part time for the same org. making $9/hour) I am also half way to a bachelors degree in finance at a local university. During the past couple of years I have been going part time to school which has worked out pretty well. I am getting to the point now where I really want to finish my degree and go to school full time and get it over with! so I am considering quitting my job at the end of this year or going to a part time position(15-20 hours a week) again so I can give my all to finishing school. Financially, I have $28k saved up and my rent and billls are very low. I take loans out for tuition only. I also make a few hundred bucks a month selling on ebay on the side. What advice would you give me? I am a very smart person but in the past have made some bad choices when it comes to school work etc. What should I do? What is the right decision?
It sounds like you have set yourself up to be in a good position to go to full-time student status. If you're a good student (which it sounds like you are, considering you're working full time and have managed to get through half your degree) I would suggest keeping at least a part-time job. Going to school full time tends to change spending habits, frequently making you spend somewhat more than before.
That being said, I would suggest applying for work-study as part of your financial aid and getting a job on campus. Working on campus tends to lead to better grades and a more satisfying college experience because campus employers are usually a lot more flexible and understanding about the demands classes make on your time and attention. And you're on campus all day, which makes campus resources a lot more accessible as well as making it easier to get involved in campus life.
