Catholics: Should we continue to condone just wars? What is a "just" war anyway?
Pope John Paul II allowed that President Bush could consider the war in Iraq as a just war. This would not be in contradiction with the beliefs of the Church. Shouldn't all war be in contradiction with the Church?
Did Jesus ever fight even when attacked?
Did a "just" or "holy" war concept begin with the Crusades or even earlier?
Should we repent of the Crusades by apology and change of our beliefs and political ways?
Do we risk the correction of God if we don't repent? Jer 4:19-28

answer4u: So to sum up the Doctors of the Church since St. Augustine, the end justifies the means. Just like Machiavelli, I suppose.
The flaming sword that was placed at the gates to the garden of Eden to put to death anyone who reached out and tried to eat from the tree of eternal life has been removed by the terms of the new covenant through the blood of Christ. We no longer need to pass through death in order to receive eternal life. Heaven is near. We can have it if we just follow the words of God. Believe it. The covenant of love is all we need.
